Todd Helton will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn
labrum in his right hip on Friday. He originally injured the hip in early June causing
him to miss time with a stint on the 15-day disabled list.
Helton told Denver Post columnist Patrick Saunders, "The
recovery time is about six months, so I am doing this now so I can be ready for
spring training. I plan on playing next year,"Helton is owed $5 million for 2013 and has part of a previous extension the Rockies will owe him $13.1 million in deferred money to be paid from 2014 to 2023. – According to Cot’s Contracts.
A career .320/.419/.545 hitter, he has struggled this season
only hitting .238/.343/.400 with seven home runs and 37 RBI in 69 games.
